Journey to Uganda’s Primate Capital

After breakfast, begin your journey westwards towards Kibale National Park, one of Africa’s most remarkable destinations for primate encounters.

The drive takes you through changing landscapes, from the bustling surroundings of Entebbe to Uganda’s beautiful countryside.

Along the way, experience rural communities, farms, plantations and rolling landscapes that reveal the everyday life of the Pearl of Africa.

As you approach Kibale, the environment gradually transforms into lush tropical forest.

Kibale is renowned for its extraordinary primate diversity and is one of the world’s premier destinations for encountering chimpanzees in their natural environment.

Arrive at your lodge, check in and enjoy some time to relax.

Your guide will brief you about tomorrow’s chimpanzee trekking experience and what to expect in the forest.

Into the Forest in Search of Chimpanzees

Today you enter one of Africa’s most fascinating primate habitats.

After an early breakfast, proceed to the park headquarters for your chimpanzee trekking briefing.

Your ranger guide will introduce you to the forest guidelines and responsible wildlife-viewing practices before leading you into the ancient rainforest.

As you walk beneath towering trees and through dense vegetation, listen carefully for the distinctive calls of chimpanzees.

Then the search becomes real.

Follow signs of movement through the forest until you locate a chimpanzee community.

Watch our closest living relatives in their natural home.

Observe their fascinating behaviour as they feed, communicate, climb through the canopy, groom one another and interact socially.

Kibale is also home to numerous other primates, offering opportunities to encounter red-tailed monkeys, black-and-white colobus monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabeys, olive baboons and other forest species.

After your trek, return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation.

Bigodi Wetland Experience

In the afternoon, discover the community-managed Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary.

With a local guide, explore the wetlands on foot while looking for monkeys, birds and other wildlife.

Beyond wildlife, Bigodi provides an opportunity to learn about the surrounding communities, local livelihoods and conservation initiatives.

This combination of forest wildlife and community tourism makes the day both adventurous and culturally rewarding.

From Chimpanzee Country to Gorilla Country

After breakfast, leave Kibale behind and begin your journey towards Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Today is a spectacular scenic journey through western Uganda.

Travel through rolling hills, crater lakes, banana plantations, tea-growing areas and rural communities as you make your way towards southwestern Uganda.

The landscape becomes increasingly mountainous as you approach the Albertine Rift.

By the time you reach Bwindi, you will understand why this region is often described as one of Uganda’s most beautiful landscapes.

Bwindi’s ancient rainforest rises across steep mountain slopes and provides a protected home for one of Africa’s most iconic endangered animals—the mountain gorilla.

Arrive at your lodge and enjoy the peaceful forest surroundings.

Your guide will provide a detailed briefing about the following day’s gorilla trek, including what to carry and how to prepare.

Enjoy an early dinner and rest well.

Tomorrow, you meet the giants of the forest.

The Ultimate Great Ape Encounter

Wake early for the most anticipated morning of your safari.

After breakfast, travel to the relevant park headquarters for your gorilla trekking briefing.

Your experienced ranger guides will explain the trekking guidelines, safety procedures and responsible gorilla-viewing practices before you enter Bwindi’s ancient rainforest.

Then your trek begins.

Follow narrow forest trails through dense vegetation and steep terrain while your ranger searches for signs of your assigned gorilla family.

The trek can take several hours depending on the location and movements of the gorillas and the terrain.

And then comes the moment you have travelled to Africa to experience.

Your first encounter with a mountain gorilla.

A powerful silverback.

A mother caring for her infant.

Young gorillas playing in the vegetation.

A family quietly going about its daily life in the forest.

Once the gorillas are located, spend your allocated viewing time observing these magnificent animals in their natural habitat.

Take photographs, watch their behaviour and simply absorb the extraordinary experience of being in the presence of one of Earth’s most remarkable great apes.

After the trek, return to the lodge for lunch or refreshments before beginning your journey towards Kigali, Rwanda.

Cross the Rwanda–Uganda border and continue through the spectacular landscapes of Rwanda’s famous rolling hills.

Depending on your flight or onward travel arrangements, your guide will transfer you to Kigali.
