Journey to Bwindi

Your safari begins with an early morning departure from Kampala or Entebbe.

Meet your professional safari guide and begin the journey to southwestern Uganda. The drive takes you through changing landscapes, busy towns and beautiful countryside.

As you travel towards Bwindi, the scenery becomes more mountainous. Green hills, farms and local communities create a beautiful backdrop along the route.

You will stop along the way for lunch and short breaks.

Continue towards Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and arrive at your lodge later in the day.

After check-in, relax and enjoy the peaceful forest surroundings.

Your guide will also brief you about the next day’s gorilla trek. You will learn what to expect and what to carry for the experience.

Morning: Gorilla Trekking

Today is the highlight of your safari.

After an early breakfast, prepare for your gorilla trekking experience. Your guide will drive you to the appropriate park sector for registration and briefing.

Bwindi has several trekking sectors, including Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga and Nkuringo. Your trekking sector will depend on the gorilla family assigned to you.

After the briefing, begin your trek into the dense Bwindi forest.

The trek can take several hours. The duration depends on the location and movement of the gorilla family. The forest terrain can also be steep and challenging in some areas.

Experienced trackers will lead the way. They will search for signs of the gorillas as you move through the forest.

Eventually, you will come face-to-face with a mountain gorilla family.

This is a rare opportunity to observe these incredible animals in their natural habitat. You may see gorillas feeding, playing, grooming or caring for their young.

You will have a designated period to observe and photograph the gorillas. Your guide will explain the rules and help you maintain a respectful distance.

After the trek, return to the park headquarters before heading back to your lodge.

Enjoy lunch and spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing after the trek.

Optional Community Experience

If time and energy allow, you can visit a nearby community in the afternoon.

You may interact with local residents, learn about traditional ways of life or experience aspects of Batwa culture.

The activity provides an opportunity to learn more about the people who live around Bwindi and their connection with the forest.

Return to your lodge for dinner and relaxation.

Journey Back

After breakfast, begin your journey back to Kampala or Entebbe.

The drive takes you through the scenic countryside of southwestern Uganda. Enjoy views of rolling hills, farms and rural communities along the way.

You will stop for lunch and short breaks during the journey.

Continue to Kampala or Entebbe, where your guide will drop you off at your hotel or Entebbe International Airport, depending on your travel plans.

Your 3-day Bwindi gorilla trekking safari comes to an end with unforgettable memories of Uganda’s mountain gorillas and the beautiful Bwindi forest.
