Detailed 4 Days Gorillas & Lake Mburo

Day 1: Kampala to Bwindi National Park

After breakfast, leave Kampala at around 7:00 am and start your journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in southwestern Uganda. The drive takes about 8 hours, depending on road conditions and stops along the way.

Beautiful views of the Ugandan countryside await you along the way. Look out for banana and coffee plantations, long-horned cattle, green hills, and local communities.

A short stop in Mbarara gives you time to stretch and relax before continuing to the Kigezi Highlands. From there, the road passes through beautiful hills, farms, and scenic countryside.

Later, reach Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, which is famous for its mountain gorillas and rich forest life. Once you arrive, check in at your lodge, have dinner, and relax for the night.

Begin the day with breakfast at the lodge. Pack your lunch and prepare for your gorilla trekking experience.

Essential items include a camera, sturdy hiking shoes, drinking water, sunglasses, a rain jacket, and long trousers.

Your guide will take you to the park information center for a briefing. There, you will learn the rules to follow during the trek. The activity usually starts at around 8:00 am.

Once the briefing is complete, enter Bwindi Impenetrable Forest with experienced park rangers. They will lead you through the forest as you search for a gorilla family.

Gorilla trekking can take about 2 to 8 hours, depending on where the gorillas are that day. Since they move through the forest in search of food and water, their location can change.

No special skills are needed for gorilla trekking. However, reasonable fitness is important because some forest trails can be steep and challenging.

Meeting the gorillas is an exciting experience. You may see silverbacks, mothers, and young gorillas as they feed, play, or rest. During the encounter, you will have time to take photos while following the park rules.

Once the trek ends, return to the lodge and relax. If time and energy allow, visit a Batwa community and learn about their culture and way of life.

Enjoy dinner and spend the night at the lodge.

After breakfast, leave Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and drive east to Lake Mburo National Park.

The route passes through the beautiful Kigezi Highlands and continues towards Mbarara. This area is well known for its long-horned Ankole cattle.

Once you reach Lake Mburo National Park, you can expect to find zebras, antelopes, hippos, warthogs, buffaloes, and many bird species.

Lunch will be enjoyed along the way before you continue to the park. Upon arrival, check in at your lodge and take some time to relax.

Later in the afternoon, head out for an evening game drive. Keep an eye out for zebras, antelopes, buffaloes, and other wildlife.

After the game drive, return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

After breakfast, enjoy a boat safari on Lake Mburo. This relaxing trip offers a good chance to see wildlife around the water.

Along the lake shores, look out for hippos, buffaloes, crocodiles, and many bird species. Other possible sightings include the grey crowned crane, saddle-billed stork, and Abyssinian ground hornbill.

Once the boat safari ends, return to the lodge and relax. Take some time at the bar or enjoy a refreshing swim in the pool.

Lunch will be served before you leave Lake Mburo National Park and begin the journey back to Kampala.

A stop at the Equator gives you time to take photos and enjoy the experience. Nearby shops also offer locally made crafts and souvenirs.

Continue the journey to Kampala and arrive in the late afternoon or evening.
