In 2026, a standard Uganda gorilla trekking permit costs 800 US dollars for a foreign non-resident. Foreign residents pay 700 US dollars, while holders of other African passports pay 500 US dollars. East African Community citizens pay a discounted local rate in Ugandan shillings.

Uganda also offers a low-season permit discount during the wetter months of April, May, and November. During this period, the standard permit price drops to 600 US dollars.

However, travellers should choose their dates carefully. Once you book a discounted permit, changing the travel date may be difficult under the applicable booking conditions.

Gorilla trekking in Uganda takes place in two national parks: Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. Both parks lie in the country’s scenic southwestern region.

However, security conditions in eastern Congo can change quickly. Virunga National Park has also closed to tourism on several occasions in recent years.

Last-minute permits may occasionally be available during the low season. However, we do not recommend relying on this possibility.

A single large group can book several permits at once, causing availability to change very quickly.

What Happens If Your Plans Change? Refund and Rescheduling Rules
